Environmental Advisory Service Environmental Advisory Service (EAS) is a community architectural consultancy service operating in conjunction with the specialized rehabilitation services of the Rehabaid Centre and the Rotary Rehabaid Centre for Children, all of which are services under the Rehabaid Society. EAS provides a specialized information and advisory service on the environmental needs for people with special needs (including the physically disabled; the sensory disabled; the mentally ill; the mentally handicapped; and the elderly). Aims Our major aim is to encourage inclusive design of the physical environment that enables people with special needs to make the most of their lives, and to be as independent as possible. EAS advocates equal rights for people with special needs within the community. EAS promotes improvement of the environment so as to enable people with disabilities to integrate on equal terms into all areas of society, including education, employment and housing opportunities, recreation and leisure, communication and transportation. EAS is committed to shaping of the environment which helps people with special needs to achieve their potential and to integrate into the social, cultural and economic life of the community. Scope of Service Consultancy Services EAS provides advisory service for clients with disabilities and the elderly, as well as their families, carers and related service providers on the renovations and modifications required in the new or existing home / working environments and premises. EAS offers consultation service for architects, interior designers, urban planners and other design professionals on their projects, providing advices on accessible design planning and implementation. EAS also provides advisory service to hospitals, government departments, voluntary agencies and health care professionals on accessibility issues relating to the existing or future plans, on the implications of providing accessible facilities, and on the design of and operational needs for accessible buildings. Legal Reports EAS provides expert reports for government counsels and solicitors in practice to assist them in handling personal injury claim proceedings. These reports identify the suitability of the living accommodation or workplaces of the injured clients, and also give recommendations on the modifications required to these environments with an estimate cost in order to meet clients' specific needs. Access Audit Reports EAS provides customized reports for building owners, service providers and other interested organizations. These reports enable property owners / managers to improve the accessibility of their premises through changing services practices, policies and procedures, providing auxiliary aids and services, and overcoming physical barriers. Clients are also advised on prioritization and on the formulation of an implementation plan. Research Research projects are conducted on topics related to accessible environments and inclusive design. Seminars and Workshops Customized training seminars and educational workshops are held regularly for participants to acquire up-to-date information and exchange knowledge on aspects of accessible environments and universal design. Publications Booklets, pamphlets, design guidelines, research reports and newsletters on various aspects of accessible environment are published. EAS is staffed by qualified architects working in close collaboration with the Rehabaid and Rotary Rehabaid therapists; the services offered to clients are comprehensive and totally unique, taking into full consideration of individual needs resulting from specific disabilities along with the technical, aesthetic and environmental aspects which combine to embrace diversity and provide a better quality of life for all people in Hong Kong.
